Christmas ‘bash’
The day began with the arrival at Tescos in Ashford of various shapes and sizes of land/range rovers amounting to in excess of twenty vehicles which were then to convoy down to Lydd to experience for the clubs first time the man made course laid out by Phil and his colleagues at Lydd International Raceway.
Leaving Ashford, the first ten or so vehicles turning the correct way at the round-a-bout and the rest not, what a start? We were soon sorted out by Darren and were soon in touch again with the leading bunch, that must have been some sight, over twenty land rovers in convoy!
On arrival we very soon had signed in and negotiated our way past the go-cart circuit to the 4x4 ‘ arena’ where the more adventurous very soon found themselves up to the axles in very sticky mud, I should add that the not so adventurous waited a while and then got stuck in the mud!
A certain area of water claimed a couple of victims but they were soon back on track although one had to strip out the top end to pump the water out. One member managed to sheer two engine mounting bolts and one on the gearbox but he assures me it hasn’t put him off. Various other excursions led to motors finishing in all kinds of problems but with the usual helpful attitude from other members nobody stayed stuck for very long. It was good to see so many ‘new’ members out testing their abilities and doing very well. All in all a good day out enjoyed by all.
People deserving special mention must be those members who brought along firewood, those who decorated themselves and their motors, but above all, Stuart, Marion,Janice and Sam for their endeavours with the hot soup etc. so preventing the biting wind getting to us. A thank you to Phil at L.I.R. for being so accommodating.
